Nashville Legend, David Grier

Join us at the shop for a workshop and performance with Nashville legend, David Grier!

In 1988, David began recording a series of critically acclaimed solo albums for the Rounder Records label. It was these recordings that pushed David to the forefront of the Bluegrass scene and brought him three IBMA Guitar Player of the Year awards. In 2000, David was recognized by Acoustic Guitar Magazine as one of the “Artists of the Decade” and his solo album "I've Got the House to Myself" was included in the "100 Essential Acoustic Guitar Recordings of All Time." He has also played on four Grammy Award-winning albums (True Life Blues: A Tribute to Bill Monroe; The Great Dobro Sessions; Alison Brown’s Fairweather; and Amazing Grace 2: A Country Salute to Gospel).

On his newest upcoming album, “Ways of the World”, David showcases his vocals for the first time on five original songs. The new album is a brilliant example of David’s expansive capability and artistic evolution. He continues to captivate listeners with exciting new material while keeping traditional virtuosic flatpick guitar at the heart of his sound.

During the workshop, David will answer any questions you may have about flatpicking, highlighting concepts that are crucial to the art.

Flatpicking Workshop: 7:00-8:30pm

Alberto Whitmer Guitar Concert

Alberto "Bear" Whitmer is a guitarist and teacher from Metro Detroit. As an instrumental fingerstyle acoustic player, Bear plays music that draws from British and American folk, Irish Traditional Music, Celtic, Blues, Classical, Jazz, Pop, and Percussive Fingerstyle. Bear is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee's fingerstyle guitar performance program under John Stropes. He also holds a Master of Arts degree in Irish Traditional Music from the University of Limerick. Bear has played with Mick Gavin and Friends, opened for Stefano Barone, Robert Jones & Matt Watroba, and James Keelaghan as well as being the special guest of Blackthorn. Around Detroit, he performs regularly at Irish sessions, open mics and farmers markets as well as busking when the weather cooperates.

Raven Grey Concert March 18

Raven Grey Concert March 18

Raven Grey is an acoustic Americana duo based in the metro Detroit area. Comprised of Aaron Markovitz and Rebecca Cameron. The pair of singer/songwriters met at the end of 2021 at a songwriting circle hosted in Clarkston, MI. Aaron and Rebecca connected through a mutual respect of each other’s talents and several shared musical influences and found instant chemistry when singing together on a Joy Williams composition. Vocal harmonies are a large part of what makes up Raven Grey. Think of artists like The Civil Wars, The Milk Carton Kids and the Secret Sisters. There are even hints of Jazz that may resemble the duo of Rachel and Vilray.
