February 28th Fingerstyle Workshop: Freight Train by Elizabeth Cotten

Join us for a workshop designed for both aspiring and experienced fingerstyle guitarists. This month, we'll explore Elizabeth Cotten's iconic and accessible "Freight Train," a piece admired for its memorable melody, rhythmic drive, and expressive simplicity. Learn the signature "Cotten picking" technique, discover the song's rich history and structure, and uncover subtle musical details that offer depth for seasoned players.

The session will be divided into three segments catering to different experience levels:

Beginners: We'll start with the basic chord progression and rhythm pattern

Intermediate: We'll add in the basic fingerstyle melody and accompaniment

Advanced: We'll learn the full melody and accompaniment as well as ornamentations

The workshop will conclude with a group play-along where participants from each level can comfortably join in.

Don't miss this chance to enhance your fingerstyle guitar skills and learn a classic song!
