Mert Sela - Classical Guitarist
Mert studied guitar in Turkey, receiving a Bachelors degree from Kocaeli University. Since then, he has been teaching guitar for 25 years with the capability of teaching at an advanced level. Mert has organized many guitar workshops and recitals over the past two decades, and he is happy to bring his educational prowess to the metro-Detroit area.
During this 90-minute workshop, Mert Sela will cover the basics on some aspects of music theory such as intervals, chords, scales, modes, transpositions, guitar tablature, and chord positions utilizing the Sela Music Theory Clock, which Mert claims is the “easiest way of understanding music theory.” Mert’s invention is a graphical structure that focuses on visual memory in conveying information, providing convenience in calculating intervals, chords, scales, modes, transpositions, and chord positions. Mert’s aim with this invention was to explain and teach the basic knowledge of music theory in a practical way, replacing older methods that Mert found “complicated and difficult.”
Participants are not required to know music theory to participate. To follow along with the workshop, Mert requires attendees to download the “Music Clock Theory” app from the app store.
