Light up this 250th Independence Day with an electrifying workshop celebrating the fretwork fireworks of one of blues' most iconic classics, John Lee Hooker's "Boom Boom." From its explosive 1962 debut to its 1992 UK Top 20 comeback, from the Blues Brothers to Skyfall, "Boom Boom" has danced through the decades with infectious energy. This workshop unpacks the magic behind one of blues' most irresistible grooves, tracing its Detroit roots with influences from the Delta, Louisiana, and Piedmont traditions, all synthesized through Hooker's genius into pure sonic dynamite.
The session will be divided into three segments catering to different experience levels:
Beginners: We'll start with the basic chord progression, rhythm pattern, and stop starts
Intermediate: We'll learn the basic fingerstyle melody and accompaniment
Advanced: We'll add in slides, bends, mutes & the middle guitar break
We'll conclude with a group play-along where every level can comfortably join in. For those seeking additional support, a follow-up Zoom session will be held one week later, offering a review and an opportunity to address any questions.
