All-Analog Frequency Doubling and Input Filter Tracking
Expanded Disnortion Voicing Inside a Mini Architecture
The Pigtronix Octava packs an expanded version of the highly sought-after octave-up circuit from the original flagship Disnortion pedal into an ultra-slim micro housing. Moving far past modern digital tracking processors that slice your signal into cold mathematical algorithms, this 100% analog frequency doubler preserves absolute picking response and touch-sensitive note tracking. The circuit splits and multiplies your input wave structurally to generate a classic, singing 1970s upper octave effect. Stable intervals such as octaves, perfect fourths, and heavy power chords yield a gnarly, tweezed-out harmonic grind, while complex or dissonant intervals dissolve into rich, ring-modulator textures across all registers of your instrument.
Integrated J-FET Drive Preamp and Low-Pass Input Sculpting
To overcome the tracking limitations of traditional vintage octave boxes, the hardware incorporates an intelligent front-end structural layout. An on-board input Drive control increases the gain of a dedicated, internal J-FET preamp stage. This allows players to manually tailor the harmonic response of the octave engine to perfectly match low-output single-coil setups or high-output active humbuckers. Rather than using a basic tone pot that dulls your entire amplifier mix, the Filter knob controls a specialized low-pass EQ matrix attached strictly to the input of the octave tracking lane. Sweeping this control adjusts the exact cutoff frequency to capture violin-like octave-up tones anywhere on the neck without needing to touch your guitar's control knobs.
Creative Rig Integration and Circuit Optimization
Full-Wave Rectified Shoegaze Distortion
Pressing the centralized mechanical Fuzz push button engages an aggressive, gushing fuzz circuit wired in series immediately following the analog octave doubler. This combination replicates the devastating, full-wave rectified distortion layout of the original large-format units. This high-gain setup provides a thick, saturated crunch and searing upper-octave shimmer that forces solos and heavy, walls-of-sound shoegaze riffs straight to the front of a busy recording or stage mix.
High-Headroom Dynamic Clean Parallel Blending
Running the micro-chassis at its maximum 18VDC limit vastly expands internal headroom, providing an incredibly snappy dynamic range. Turning the Blend knob counterclockwise enables parallel wet/dry mixing, letting you layer the upper octave effect softly over your raw overdrive or clean amplifier tones. This configuration introduces a distinct timbral bite, upper-register harmonic definition, and classic ring-mod jangle while fully preserving your instrument's raw transient speed and baseline frequency boundaries.
OCTAVA REQUIRES A NEGATIVE TIP, 9V-18VDC POWER SUPPLY. IT REQUIRS A POWER SUPPLY THAT PROVIDES AT LEAST 100MA OF CURRENT TO ENSURE OPTIMAL PERFORMANCE. OCTAVA DOES NOT TAKE BATTERIES. DO NOT EXCEED 18VDC AT THE INPUT JACK. EXCEEDING THE VOLTAGE PARAMETERS RISKS PERMANENT HARDWARE FAILURE, FRIED ELECTRICAL ENVELOPE NETWORKS, AND WILL VOID YOUR 1-YEAR FACTORY WARRANTY.
