The JHS Unicorn V2 delivers the thick, syrupy phasing and rotary emulation of vintage stable circuits by utilizing a completely analog, bulb-driven photocell topology. Packaged inside a pedalboard-friendly compact chassis, this design avoids digital algorithms entirely, preserving a touch-sensitive instrument dynamic and organic warmth. By driving an internal light bulb against light-dependent photocells, the hardware creates an asymmetrical, watery sweeping pattern that perfectly captures the legendary late-1960s classic rock modulation standards established on historic stages.
Setting this circuit apart from traditional vintage hardware is the inclusion of an onboard tap-tempo footswitch paired with a dedicated rhythmic Ratio knob. The detented Ratio control enables instantaneous selection across four distinct speed subdivisions: quarter notes, eighth notes, dotted eighths, and triplets. A side-mounted Tap/Exp TRS jack expands operational versatility, allowing players to connect an external expression pedal for real-time speed sweeps or sync the tempo across multiple compatible tap-controlled devices on a single rig layout.
Placing the mini-toggle into the Dry position activates a traditional Uni-Vibe style chorus mix. Setting the Volume knob slightly above unity provides up to a 9dB output boost to push the front-end of a tube amplifier. This setup achieves a rich, swirl-heavy texture that sits beautifully under clean rhythm arrangements or sprawling, spatial chord progressions.
