The JHS 3 Series Oil Can Delay pays direct homage to the rare, mid-century electro-static delay units originally designed by Tel-Ray Electronics. Known for their thick, syrupy repeats and distinct warble, this circuit successfully translates that legendary analog vibe into a rugged, board-friendly design. The Mix control balances your clean instrument signal with the delayed echo. The Speed knob controls the delay time from a tight, percussive 100 ms slapback to a rolling 330 ms ambient space.
The Feedback knob regulates the intensity of your repeats, effortlessly moving from a single echo to rich, self-oscillating washes of sound. To fully capture the physical properties of early "tuna-can" drum mechanisms, the pedal features a dedicated (+/-) Modulation toggle. In the down position, it adds a light, subtle pitch movement. Flicking the switch up introduces a heavy, deeply modulated warble. This modulation tracking speed is directly tied to your Speed setting—shorter delay times create faster vibrato, while longer delay times produce slow, sweeping chorus behaviors.
Like all pedals in the JHS 3 Series lineup, the Oil Can Delay delivers elite, no-nonsense utility inside an understated all-white metal enclosure. The pedal utilizes a true bypass footswitch and standard 1/4-inch side jacks for reliable integration into any pedalboard layout. The internal electronics require standard 9VDC negative center power and pull a steady 65 mA current draw. Never exceed 9VDC, as doing so will void your factory warranty.
